Today we took the two monsters to see Santa and although he was a great Santa to look at, when did it become just about the photo and not about the kids interacting with Santa??

I remember when I was little we'd go to see Santa wait in line and when it was my turn, up I'd go sit on his knee and he'd ask my name and ask what I wanted for christmas. Nowdays you just get ushered up placed where you need to go snap and off you trot.....

Message to all Santas out there: please make it about the kids and play the role not just the photo model!!

Nevermind, the kids were terrified and we all had to sit for the photo anyway - just like last year!

Time for another decor update..lol. The other day through my various internet window shopping excursions I came across some very gorgeous printed "birdies" cards and decided they were too gorgeous to not keep so I'd frame them and put them up on the wall. I'm loving birds at the moment! They are designed and printed by the very talented Samone at Red Letter Studio right here in my hometown of Melbourne. So I not only get some very cheap and gorgeous art on my walls but also support a local artist.

And now heres my photo of them up on the wall (excuse my homemade photography I desperately need a camera), its just the touch this wall needed as its the first thing you see when you walk in the door and in liue of a never ending budget this was a cheap and cheerful fix.

Birthdays and Fairies

Today is my daughters 3rd birthday, we've been counting down the sleep all week to get to today and boy has it been a long week. Wiith a lot of "if your not good the Birthday Fairies won't come for your birthday", it worked a few times but not many.

She awoke this morning and snuck into my bed as usual and as usual she laid there for about 5 mins before her little voice said "watch telly mummy", so I turned on the television and within a few mins she said "get up now". So I tried to stall her as I do every morning to at least 7.00am. After a few mins of quiet she said "theres a door in my room" and I said "what kind of door", she replied "a pink one", so I asked her "where did it come from?", to which she replied "mummy!!".

But after a bit of persuasion she finally believed it came from the birthday fairies who left behing a special note with fairy dust and fairy dust all around her door. The look of amazement was priceless.

These doors are just gorgeous and avaialble from Monkeytail & Wellington.

And the dollhouse I ordered her just literally arrived, phew thankgod for small miracles.

An afternoon project

Well I got really sick and tired of looking at the space around our fire, it was dreary and hard to keep clean with all the fire wood traipsing in and out, dirty feet coming in and out the sliding doors. So I decided to give it a little make over today (one of many I'm yet to start!!). Firstly I packed the kids in the car and went to Romsey to pick up a lovely big cane basket to store the fire wood in, we had seen these a couple of weeks back when we'd been up there for a drive.

Then it was just a case of getting rid of the old, a good old fashioned vacuum and mop to make sure it was all spotless and then I placed in the basket filled it with wood and hung the painting up that I had picked up in a gallery in Perth about 15 years ago.

And although I'd still like a few new things in this space, I think for now it looks great.

Birthday Countdown..

This morning my little girl who is turning 3 this Friday, said make cakes mummy, make cakes!
So we made some little fairy cakes with strawberry jam in the middle. And although it could have been a disaster (think 2 yo little boy throwing the eggs!!) they turned out not too bad. So I thought I’d share the recipes with you and some photos (taken via my phone as the kids have broken my camera permanently and now I have no camera L ), well actually I can't get the pics from my phone onto the computer..sorry they were cute...I really need a new camera!!

Pre Heat oven to 180º C and spray mini muffin tin with cooking spray
Sift 1 cup of self raising flour into a bowl, stir in three tablespoons brown sugar and make a well in the centre.
Whisk together ½ cup of milk, 60g melted butter, 1 egg and then pour into the well and mix together until just combined.
Divide half the mixture into the muffin holes (makes about 12). Spoon a little strawberry jam into the center of each and then top with remaining mixture. Sprinkle with some natural (untoasted) muesli.
Bake for about 15 mins, set aside and allow filling to cool before serving.

I use a mini quiche type tin rather than a muffin tin to get the fairy cake shape.

These are seriously yum even for the adults, they are low in added sugar so a healthy treat for the kiddies.

PANDA Night Off Night Out

Friday night out at PANDA's Night Off Night Out was loads of fun. We drank and ate and bid on the silent auctions, some of us not naming names were in a bidding frenzy until she realised how much she was up for!! ha ha. The night was to raise funds for Post and Antenatal Depression and is an annual event for PANDA. Qtees is very proud to be a sponsor and proudly support PANDA in all that they do. It was a great night out and I want to thank Prue from Gigi and Lulu and Pru from Littlebird Photography for coming along and lending their support too. Today is the first day of April and its 30 degrees outside! I am so looking forward to winter but we seem to be having an endless summer here in Melbourne. Yesterday I went sourcing fabrics for the Summer 09/10 range, so luckily the weather is keeping me in the right frame of mind to be picking great fabrics for the range. I fell in love with a couple of particular fabrics and the colours are so so gorgeous its hard to choose. Keep checking back in the next few months to get a sneak peek of the samples when they're done.

Night Off Night Out is a fantastic ladies only event run by Panda (Post and Antenatal Depression Association). Qtees is an avid supporter of Panda and will be attending this great night out to help raise awareness and funds for this very worthy cause. I encourage all you Melbourne girls to get together and book yourself a Night Off Night Out for some serious fun!!

About Night Off Night Out

In 2000 three women met at pre-natal exercise classes when they were all pregnant with their first child. After getting together on a monthly basis to catch up they realised that raising a young child and trying to keep up with friends on a regular basis was more difficult than they had originally anticipated. This led to the idea of a "night out" for friends and their mother's groups - given the overwhelming changes that a child can bring to a family and limited opportunities for "social" time.

They agreed that whilst they were lucky not have suffered depression from becoming a mother they all knew women who had. They decided to host an event to raise money for an organisation that assisted women and chose to try and assist the Post and Antenatal Depression Association ("PANDA") by organising a fundraising dinner for women.

The first Night Off-Night Out event took place in 2003 and it gave 180 ladies a "night off" from their everyday life as well as a "night out" with girlfriends. A fantastic night was had by all that attended and $4,580.00 was raised and donated to PANDA.

Vic Bushfire Crisis

The bushfires that have raged throughout Victoria and are still raging in some areas have caused utter devastation across our state. There are so many stories that just make your heart break and so many people who have lost so much!

To help give back even a little to these people there are numerous ways in which you can offer your support. Donations can be made to the Red Cross.

Another way of supporting the children of these bushfires is to buy a Rainbow Comfort Pack which will then be sent directly to the relief centres for distribution to these children.
